Brief review
Nothing Phone 1 boasts of its unique design. The screen has small, and evenly sized bezels around it. Nothing opted for a flexible display that bends into the phone itself at the bottom just like what Apple has done with the iPhone X, and still a rarity on Android phones today. The sides are made from recycled aluminum, to keep the not-so-small phone less weighty.
On the left side you will find the two volume buttons and the power button on the right. The back is however covered with transparent glass, revealing a look inside the phone — this goes for both the white and black versions. covered by white plates so you can make out individual components under the glass. The transparent back however, is held in place with adhesive like any other glass sandwich smartphone, you can see the screws holding everything in place without an easy, non-destructive way to touch them yourself.
The phone frame consists of recycled aluminum with a transparent such that you can see the innards of the phone like the wiring and engineering panel. Nothing according to reports sourced 100% recycled aluminum and made 50% of its plastics bio-based, built from recycled materials.
Nothing also goes ahead to add LED strips to some of the components. They had to place over 900 individual LEDs, using a protective layer held together with yellowish glue to neutralize blue wavelengths and light bleeding. Together, these LED strips form what is called the “Glyph” interface.
These light strips flash in sync with your notification and call sounds, and users can assign different light shows and sounds to different callers, helping you get an idea of who is calling you when your phone is faced down on the table or when you are not with your phone. This also applies to app notifications also, though you can’t select your preferred contacts or apps in the Glyph settings pane.
In terms of hardware, the Nothing Phone 1 uses the Snapdragon 778G+ phone which supports wireless and reverse-wireless charging, a capability that is usually limited to higher-end devices. Working closely with Qualcomm to enable this feature for the 778+, which usually doesn’t support it. The phone’s price is piqued at 500 Euros.
Generally, Nothing Phone combines innovative design with carbon neutrality which gives its customers a maximum user experience. According to Carl Pei,
Nothing’s mission is to remove barriers between people and technology to create a seamless digital future. The best technology is beautiful, yet natural and intuitive to use. It should fade into the background and feel like nothing.
Nothing promises premium user experience.
