Flip phones were a thing in the past, everyone had it as the latest device in vogue. Now in the era of smartphones, a flip phone is probably a big deal because it now means bending the display. The Oppo Find N2 Flip review is one of such innovations in the smartphone era, here’s why you should consider owning an Oppo Find N2 Flip. Join us in this Oppo Find N2 Flip review, as we reveal the specs and features of this new innovation.
The Oppo Find N2 Flip was first announced on December 15 last year, and officially released on December 23 same year. Here’s a sneak peek into its specs.
Oppo Find N2 Flip Review And Features
The Find N2 Flip joins the Find N2 proper to form a duo similar to Samsung’s Galaxies Flip and Fold situation. The Find N2 Flip has a lot in common with the Galaxy, however there are notable differences here.
The cover display of the Oppo Find Flip 2 is a large 3.26″ unit that opens more possibilities and uses cases than the Galaxy’s tiny 1.9″ display. Oppo’s Flip is powered by Dimensity 9000+, one of the high-end Mediateks.
In The Box
Oppo Find N2 Flip arrives in the same box as the Find N2 proper, but this one is off-white as opposed to the off-black livery color of Find N2. Also the kinetic design feature that accompanies the bigger model id featured here, it helps to lift the phone towards you when you open the lid.
Inside the box we find two pieces of transparent hard plastic Snap-On covers, each half of the Find gets one. We also find the charger and the cable to go with it, which means the Flip ships with a 67W adapter, even though it’s only rated for 44W charging.
The Oppo Find N2 Flip runs Android 13, with an in-house layer of ColorOS (v.13). Oppo promises 4 years of major updates and 5 years of security patches for its operating system. Note that this version of Flip operates on the same Android+ColorOS combo as the Find N2 non-Flip.
The screen’s capabilities makes the Find N2 Flip unique. You have an always-on display screen, a whole lot of different clock styles, color options and other settings that you want to feature on screen(date and notifications are optional).
There is an interactive pet on the lock screen, past the AoD. You have to choose between five animals and they’ll be doing something different every time you wake up the cover screen. Each time you tap the animal it reacts in different way.
You can also wake the cover screen with just a double tap, and double tap back to make it sleep. You also get to unlock with your fingerprint placed on the fingerprint sensor, and if you max out the unsuccessful attempts, you need to wait 30 seconds to open the Flip and use the backup method you have set up inside.
You need to unlock the screen to access the quick toggles or pull up from the bottom to get to your notifications. Most phones do not require this method, but here it appears as a feature in Oppo Find N2 Flip.
Performance is great as this device is powered by the Dimensity 9000+, a high-end Mediatek chipset manufactured on a 4nm process. It’s CPU is very similar to the one inside the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 in the Galaxy Z Flip4 .
Several RAM and storage options are available to aid performance, starting from 8GB/256GB up to 16GB/512GB. The RAM is LPDDR5 and the storage is UFS 3.1.
The launcher in this device has no-nonsense home screens, just a simplistic and clean notification/toggles area, and an easy-to-use task switcher. The new launcher also adds support for large folders and dynamic widgets.
Dark Mode is also available, as well as other powerful tools within the settings menu of this device that helps you gain full control over your Find N2 Flip. The features include: A host of screen-on and screen-off gestures, the Smart Sidebar features a handy pane of shortcuts you pull from the side, plus the split-screen and Flexible windows. Multimedia apps for photos, music, and videos are powered by ColorOS. Including a revamped File Manager and a Phone Manager app to keep track of battery, storage, app permissions, and the rest.
When unfolded this device is the size of a large conventional smartphone, but shrinks to less than a pack of cigarettes when in ‘storage’ mode; There is no visible gap between the two halves. In its un-flipped mode, the Oppo is as large as any full-size bar smartphone, a few millimeters wider than the Galaxy, and feels bulkier.
The power button has a capacitive fingerprint reader inside, the USB-C port is found on the bottom, with a speaker on one side and a mic on the other. The SIM card tray is nearby, and accepts two nano SIMs (no microSD, naturally), plus there’s a mic pinhole and what appears to be a speaker port at the top.
As for the camera, this device carries a wide primary module and an ultra wide, no telephoto. The main camera at the back of the Find is based on the Sony IMX 890 sensor , it boasts of a 1/1.56″ optical format and a 50MP nominal resolution. The ultrawide is a notably more modest unit featuring an 8MP Sony IMX 355 sensor and a 16mm-equivalent f/2.2 aperture lens. No autofocus on this one.
Because it is foldable with a cover screen, one can capture photos of themselves on the rear camera.
Selfie camera is a Single 32 MP, f/2.4, 22mm (wide), 1/2.74″, 0.8µm, AF with three different zoom levels for the internal camera, including a 2x zoom. Enables the camera to just rest on a surface, semi-folded, and capture photos or video presumably from afar. With the autofocusing and face tracking capabilities, you can get good selfies even from a distance.
As for Video recording The Find N2 Flip records videos up to 4K30 with the main camera, you can’t record 4K video with the rear cameras while having the cover screen live view enabled, not when the phone is closed and not when the phone is open. By default the phone uses h.264 codec, but it can be switched to a more efficient h.265.
The main camera footage is nothing special, but does not exhibit major flaws, showcases details to an extent.
