The silent killer

Many times we think death comes in form of accidents but do you know that there is a silent killer among us. It is within us, accompanying us in our daily lives. Sometimes we give it a preference over what would have kept us alive.

Junk food is a silent killer we all sometimes forget about. First of all the word “junk” means something that is rubbish or a waste. Junk food is food with little or no nutritional value. An unhealthy food that is high in calories from sugar or fat with little dietary fibre, protein, vitamins, minerals or other important forms of nutritional value

Regular intake of junk food has been known to lead to increased risk of obesity, cardiovascular diseases, type 2 diabetes, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and cancer

Junk food is high in sodium and as such regular intake leads to increased migraine and headaches, it may also lead to your body retaining excessive water which results to bloating. It increases the risk of depression. It also triggers the outbreak of acne.

Did you know that consuming junk food could deteriorate your memory. It can slow down your speed of memory, learning and attention. It also leads to loss of appetite. Junk food causes digestive problems like gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and irritable bowel syndrome. It contributes to kidney disease, liver damage, in creases the risk of infertility in men and women.

I know you are getting scared, I am too. So as you are about gurge down that junk food, remember that your health is important and that junk food is a silent and slow killer. Eat a diet rich in fruits and vegetables, practice mindful eating, get enough sleep, consume rich proteinous food, avoid taking too much stress, exercise properly, drink plenty of water and I bet you that you are on the right track to health living.
