Galaxy Watch 4 was announced in 2021, it happens to be one of the first set of watch to run Wear OS 4 developed by Samsung in collaboration with Google. This smart watch has multiple sensors capable of measuring heart rates, blood oxygen level, blood pressure, ECG reading which is a sensor for measuring body composition. These sensors makes it one of the best smartwatch out there therefore people will want to protect their gadget from damages.

However the question remains, is Galaxy Watch 4 Waterproof? Several Samsung gadgets have some form of water resistance example the Galaxy Z Flip 4, and even the earbuds developed by Samsung. The Galaxy Watch 4 is no exception as it has an IP68 rating which means it can withstand dust, dirt’s, sand , water and other wet conditions.

This watch is certified for MIL-STD-810G durability which can stand drops, shock, vibration, extreme temperature.

It is water resistant of up to five feet of water for about 30mins. This makes it suitable for use in wet conditions like rain, underwater, track water based activities like swimming (either outdoor or indoor), aqua aerobics, kayaking, kite surfing, Canoeing, rowing, scuba diving, diving, snorkeling, water skiing, wind surfing, etc.

Galaxy Watch 4 supports different sports modes with several health sensors making it still a great innovation even though there is Galaxy Watch 5. However on its support page, Samsung warns that the watch is not intended for scuba diving and users should avoid high velocity activities like water skiing, wind surfing, raft.

Although Galaxy Watch 4 supports different sports mode, if it is possible to avoid wearing the watch every time users should. It is advised that the smart watch should be limited to tracking, swimming, canoeing, aqua aerobics as there are not high velocity activities.

In addition to that other precaution should be taken to protect this device and make it last longer.

  • Galaxy Watch 4 should be rinsed in freshwater after using in seawater to avoid corrosion
  • Once it’s out of water, it should be cleaned with a dry towel
  • Before charging ensure that every atom of water is dried out
  • Users are advised not to expose their watch to high pressure water like water from a tap or water hose
  • Avoid dropping it on the floor so it doesn’t lose water resistance because of structural damage that might occur when it drops
  • Turn on the water lock when using in wet conditions, to prevent ghost touches and eject the water when done

These precautions will help you protect your Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 from damage. Although it is waterproof you still have to take precautions to avoid irreparable damages.

Final thoughts

The conclusion of the matter is that, Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 is waterproof and will not damage if immersed in water. However there are exceptions to how much water damage it can take. One has to play by the rules to keep their smartwatch safe.
