If you have watched a video on TikTok without hitting the like button and it suddenly disappears, you might want to go check your TikTok ‘watch history’ to go back to that same video.
Unfortunately, this feature has been removed from the TikTok app. When you refresh your feed, videos you’ve already watched will disappear. ‘Watch history’ feature was aimed at allowing users have access to videos they have watched previously, they can view videos they’ve watched even up to the last seven days.
Previously, you could access ‘TikTok View history’ by checking on the hamburger menu located at the top right corner, then select settings and privacy once you click the hamburger icon. A menu will appear, scroll and find content and activity, here you’ll find watch history. But as at now, that feature is no longer there.
Losing a video you were watching all the time is a common thing because it happens all the time, but now that the ”watch history” feature is gone; to see your TikTok View History, you have to use alternate ways available. This alternatives will be discussed in this article, Read on!
Alternative ways to see your TikTok view history
1. Download your data from TikTok
First alternative is to download your data from TikTok.
- Go to TikTok app and visit the profile page
- Click on the three lines at the top
- When the menu appears, tap on privacy
- Then click on personalization and data
- Click on Download your data
- Tap the “Request data” button at the bottom. You will get a data request confirmation, tap on download data
- The data download request is processed within 24hrs. When the filw.is ready you can download to your device
- The file downloads in a ZIP format using your default file manager, and you can also transfer the file to your computer
The ZIP file you download will contain Information related to your TikTok account such as bio information, comments, followers list, likes, browsing history, etc. You will find your watch history in the video browsing history.
When you’ve downloaded the file, open video browsing history and click on it,you will see several text files containing date, time and link of videos you’ve watched. Copy and paste the link to your browser to watch the videos.
Tip: TikTok file data remains available for up to four days, the file disappears after that and you have to send another request to get it again.
2. Use the Discover Page
This is another available alternative to see your TikTok View History.
Simply go to Discover Page and type in Asterisk (*), then hit Enter. Select filter button next to the search bar and click on “watched videos”.
Typing in the asterisk on discover page means that it will find and list all the videos you’ve watched within the last 7days. That way, you can find the video you’re looking for.
The last alternative is to type in a specific query to find videos that match your keywords or key phrase in your watch history.

We can’t say why TikTok removed this feature. If it’s a permanent removal or just a glitch that will be fixed later. TikTok has not made an official statement regarding this.
But we suspect the feature was removed to fix the TikTok app taking up so much space on phone issue.
