With the improvement of social media to handle constantly evolving features features, the question, what is the Difference between Facebook Feed and Story have become a frequently asked question by lots of users.

This is not strange because, before now users had only known about Facebook newsfeed, which they maximized to posting all they felt the need to.

Now, Facebook team had created a new feature called story, but this seem to stir some confusion within users instead of clarity. Which is exactly why this article is written, to throw more light on these two options: Facebook News Feed and Create a story.

Before we delve into the differences proper, you may be wondering why Facebook had decided to effect this new feature to their existing algorithms, though change is constant, there is more to this strategy.

We could all agree, that Facebook users previously chucked up everything on their news feed both, personal contents and business posts.

These clutter certainly affected each other, and limited them from reaching their full potentials. To solve this, and make both to stand out.

Facebook introduced Stories. Stories is a platform made to offer users an exclusive ability to curate and post the content they wish to, for a certain period of time, usually to disappe hoar after 24hours.

Unlike the News Feed, stories make for a more personalized and exciting experience, giving users the ability to maximize their preferences, indicating that Stories are the future for social media marketing.

Though, these two features seem similar at a glance, they are different and answering what is the Difference between Facebook Feed and Story is discussed in details below.

The Difference between Facebook Feed and Story

The first glaring difference between Facebook feed and story is that when you post an update on News Feed using the ‘What’s on your mind’ box, it will appear on your timeline, and stays at the top page for 24hours before disappearance, allowing as many people as necessary to view without the risk of being sent to the bottom by other newer post as it is on news feed.

Also, implying that stories should only be used for temporary contents. However, you can still access your stories through your Facebook’s Archive feature, and also create story highlights to display them on your Facebook profile

1. Viewing Choice

Another practical difference between Facebook Feed and Story is that Facebook Stories also equip users with the ability to choose, giving them a user’s viewing choice for what they wish to see and ignore what they don’t.

Facebook Stories work like a slideshow offering a new photo or video after 30 seconds. Stories move on to other people’s after showing a person’s catalog, keeping things interesting in a sequential form.

Also, with Facebook stories your is less bound to get lost in a sea of posts from other users.

2. Availability and Accessibility

The availability and accessibility of content proves another unique difference between Facebook Feed and Story in this way.

News Feed
Posts published on the News Feed have the ability to reach a wider audience outside the Facebook app if a link to the post is shared, hence, viewable on various platforms, including Facebook mobile apps (Android and iOS), the Lite app on Android, and the website.

Stories

Stories are also accessible through multiple platforms, like the Facebook mobile apps, the website, Lite app, and Facebook Messenger, if your privacy settings allow. But their, creative options differ.

3. Duration

Facebook News Feed

On Facebook news feed, posts made by users remain for as long as Facebook is in existence except manually deleted by the user’s account, once an update is made by the popular “What’s on your mind?” box.

This attribute makes it a great platform to save unforgettable moments (pictures or videos) even when you lose your device, you can always access these data as long as you remember your Facebook password.

Facebook stories also have only two specific section for themselves and it is viewable in two places. i.e. at the top of the Facebook feed and at the top of your Facebook chat list in Messenger. You can also create a story from there and view stories from other people.

4. Comments and Likes

The difference between Facebook feed and story can also be clearly outlined in the nature of its comment and likes.

On the Facebook News Feed option, people can like and comment on individual user’s post. These reactions can be seen by the public, both friends and those who are not on your friend list.

While on Facebook, though these options are available, they are seen by the user only, and same goes for comments, which are known as replies.

Publishing a post on your feed doesn’t document the number of people who viewed your post, you can only be notified of how many liked or left a comment and what.

But, Facebook stories aren’t anonymous, it keeps track of all who viewed your story, even without a reaction.

5. Edit Ability

Mistakes are inevitable and Facebook News Feed provide an opportunity to rectify them, Unfortunately, Facebook stories lack this feature. Once the story is published, it cannot be undone, except by deleting and republishing the edited version.

Though stories, provide you with multiple creative tools to edit your content before posting. Such as add beautiful backgrounds to your texts, filters, crop, rotate images, add music, stickers, doodle, effects, animate, and add more stuff to your stories.

6. View Later

The difference between Facebook feed and story is also visible in the view later ability option only available in news feed, you can access them anytime on your profile.

But on stories, as earlier stated, contents here are temporary so you will not find it after a day passes. Still, if you wish to view it after a day, only the story creator has access to it. You can reshare the story or download it.
