Although “Filter Unknown Senders” feature has been around since the release of iOS 10. It helps you sort, filter and categorize your messages according to your preferences . To access the feature follow the steps below:
Go to Settings > Messages then enable the “Filter Unknown Senders” option. [N/B: If you don’t see “Filter Unknown Senders” on the main Messages screen, it will be under the “Unknown & Spam” section). When you go back to the Messages app, you’ll see a “Filters” button on the top-right screen, tap on it to see all the available filters.
From there, you can set your preferences such as tapping “Unread Messages” and, voila, only unread conversations will show up and you can also filter messages only from “Known Senders or Contact List” to easily ignore spam.
