SLS Cameras also known as Structured Light Sensor, are cameras used for detecting ghosts and mostly used for ghost hunting. The SLS camera is also known as the Kinect Stickman or Skeletal Tracker, it is used by ghost hunters to see spirits not visible to the human eye. The Kinect SLS Camera can detect ghosts and show them visibly on your tablet screen.
The ghost camera works effectively in complete darkness, and also in the daytime. You need a 10x AA battery, preferably alkaline batteries, and ensure they are 1.5v. 1.5v batteries can last around 1 and a half hours on full batteries.it has an on/off switch so you can leave the batteries in.
To use this camera, you need a Windows tablet where you will download the required software, or you buy a preloaded tablet. The SLS Camera is pre-build, so you won’t be assembling anything, just plug and play.
There is a USB lead which connects to your tablet, you can pull out or push it back in to suit the length you need, the mounting bracket for the tablet holder can also be adjusted. You unfold the handle and use it as a tripod you can place on the floor or a table.
How does the SLS camera work?
The Kinect SLS Camera sends out thousands of infrared beams using a monochrome CMOS sensor. These infrared beams bounce around and hit all objects in the room and also build a 3D model (dots arranged in 3D formation) of all the objects in front of it. The 3D model it builds is based on the information it sees using the infrared camera.
The Kinect and Nite software in the camera in turn uses motion detection and object recognition to detect shapes. This software ‘sees’ people by recognizing joints and movements, then the IR will detect paranormal entities that the program recognizes as a human shape based on the body parts and joints.”
The ghost hunter aims the SLS at an area, and if a ghost is there, it will show up as a stick figure like person. If the SLS camera is focused on a person , it will show a stick figure and the outline of the person; a spirit does not have this outline.
The SLS camera was invented by renowned engineer Bill Chapel and is based on Kinect’s gaming technology. It was initially made as a console peripheral for a game, it was designed to spot a human body , but gamers soon discovered that the software also detected strange images at random. Then ghost hunters adopted it for use, it first appeared on the “Ghost Adventures”, on the episode “Saint James Hotel”.
Also there is The SpiritShack SLS Camera that can also detect humanoid shapes in your environment. Very similar to how the Kinect SLS camera works.
The Question: Does the SLS camera work?
So far so good, evidence abound of the SLS camera being able to detect strange objects in an environment. The SLS camera first appeared on the episode “Saint James Hotel”, and since then, the crew has regularly used it to get raw & extreme.
The SLS camera is available for purchase on Amazon and some other online retail stores, but recently the product has not been restocked and reviews are saying it is a scam.
One only needs to try for themselves and see. But the bigger question is: How does one know that the strange object being detected by the camera is a ghost or a spirit? There are no strong facts and evidence to backup the claim that those are truly ghosts.
