When you’re jamming out to your favorite songs on Spotify, the music suddenly stops and an error message such as “Spotify can’t play current song” appears. Although it is annoying, there are numerous solutions available. This troubleshooting tips covers Spotify for desktop, Spotify for mobile, and Spotify for the web.
The Cause of Spotify’s Song-playing Issues
These failures might have a variety of causes, from problems with the software itself to problems with your computer or mobile device. Therefore, depending on whether you’re experiencing the error with Spotify on the desktop, in the mobile app, or with the Spotify web app, there are different steps to follow to fix song-playing errors.
1. Relaunch Spotify
There might have been a random issue or the Spotify app may have frozen. Try closing and reopening Spotify as it is the quickest fix.
Choose File > Quit Spotify if you are using Spotify on a desktop. Reopen and then close the Spotify mobile app.
Reopen your browser if you are using the Spotify online app after closing it.
After leaving the app(log out), log back in.
Try logging out of the app and then back in if closing out of Spotify doesn’t work.
Select Log Out from the drop-down menu next to your name in the top right corner of Spotify if you’re using the desktop version of the app. Check to see if the issue is fixed by logging back in after you’ve exited.
Choose Settings (tool icon) in the Spotify mobile app, press your profile, and then scroll down and tap Log Out. Check to see if the issue is resolved by logging back in.
Select Log Out after choosing your profile in the Spotify web app. Check to see if the issue is resolved by logging back in.
2. Reboot Your Computer
Try restarting your computer if you’re experiencing a song-playing error when using Spotify on your desktop or the Spotify web app. Restarting your computer may resolve underlying operating-system problems that are hurting Spotify and provide the music app with a brand-new environment.
3. Check If Your Version Is Up-to-date
If your Spotify app has not been updated to the latest version, you can encounter odd bugs and issues.
- Launch the Spotify desktop client.
- Using the top menu bar, choose Spotify > About Spotify.
- Spotify will let you know if an update is available and what version you are currently using. If an update is available, choose Update Now.
- A notification stating that Spotify has successfully been updated and that you must restart to reinstall the new version will appear. After clicking Close, restart your computer.
4. Upgrade the Spotify Mobile Application
On an iOS device, select iTunes & App Store and turn Updates on to enable automatic updates. Open the Google Play Store on an Android device. To find Spotify, use the search box. Check Auto-update by tapping the three vertical dots in the top right corner.
Update your Spotify mobile app manually if automatic updates aren’t enabled.
- Open the App Store application on an iOS device.
- In the lower right corner, select Updates.
- Click Update after locating Spotify.
5. Disable High- Streaming
If you switched from a Premium account to a free, ad-supported account without changing the option to stream high-quality music, you can experience errors and problems. The best playback quality is only accessible to Premium users.
Using Spotify on a desktop, Modify the Audio Quality
- Open Spotify on your desktop and click the dropdown arrow next to your name in the top right corner.
- Choose Settings.
- Choose Automatic under Music Quality or reduce the setting to anything lower than Very High.
The Spotify mobile app lets you change the audio quality.
- Start Spotify and select Settings (gear icon).
- Tap Quality for Music.
- Choose Automatic or a quality setting that is lower than Very High.
Do You Have Space On Your Device?
You may have run out of storage space on your smartphone if you’re a Premium customer and chose to use the offline option. Having at least 1 GB available for downloads is advised by Spotify.
Go to Settings > Local Files and toggle off Show Local Files to remove downloaded files from Spotify on the desktop.
